Media Alert: Minister Moosa to hand over quilted wall hanging celebrating
South Africa's fauna and flora to National Assembly Speaker, Frene Ginwala,
on 5 February
4 February 2004
The Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Mohammed Valli Moosa, will tomorrow, Thursday, 5 February 2002, present the Speaker of the National Assembly, Frene Ginwala, with a quilted wall hanging.
Minister Moosa has decided to present the artwork to the Speaker as a demonstration of his appreciation for the support Parliament has given to the national Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism in making a reality its constitutional obligation to ensure the protection of South Africans' environmental rights and the empowerment of communities through opportunities created by tourism.
This unique artwork has been put together by women from Kimberley in the Northern Cape who are part of a group of 21 women who have used funding received from the department's Poverty Eradication Programme to start up their own business. The group is one of many that have benefited from government's poverty relief programme.
All members of the media are invited to the ceremony.
