MINISTER MOOSA DECIDES ON APPEALS IN SIX FISHERIES SECTORS

Monday, 15 December 2003: The Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Mohammed Valli Moosa, has announced his decisions after considering appeals that were lodged in the oyster, seaweed, traditional line fish, hake hand line and beach seine fisheries, as well as in the boat-based whale watching sector.

Minister Moosa made the following decisions:
* Oysters: Six appeals were considered, none was granted
* Seaweed: Three appeals were considered, and one granted
* Traditional line fish: Sixteen appeals were considered and one granted
* Hake hand line: Eighty-five appeals were considered and eight were granted
* Beach seine: One appeal was considered, but was rejected
* Boat-based whale watching: Six appeals were considered and two were granted.

The Department is in the process of compiling a report in respect of these decisions. Appellants are entitled to inspect these reports. For more information call the Allocation and Verification Section of the Department on (021) 402-3911.
