DEPUTY PRESIDENT ZUMA TO ATTEND SUMMIT ON BURUNDI, 13 November 2003

Deputy President Jacob Zuma is scheduled to travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Saturday evening, to attend the Summit on Burundi to be held on Sunday, 16 November 2003.

The Deputy President will brief the Summit, hosted by the Great Lakes Regional Peace Initiative on Burundi, chaired by President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, on recent developments that have boosted the peace process, especially the signing of agreements on outstanding issues on 8 October and 2 November in Pretoria. The Summit will ratify the agreements.

The two agreements have now cleared the way for a new government to be constituted in Burundi, in a manner that will include the CNDD-FDD, and for the participation of the movement in other transitional institutions, as well as structures of the African Mission in Burundi, including the Joint Ceasefire Commission.

Enquiries: Lakela Kaunda on 082 782 2575.
