Deputy President Jacob Zuma will travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Sunday evening, 14 September 2003, to attend the Great Lakes Heads of State summit on Burundi scheduled to take place on Monday, 15 September.

The following issues are still outstanding in Burundi peace process:
* completion of the implementation of the cease-fire agreements particularly demobilisation, disarmament, rehabilitation and reintegration programme)
* transformation of the armed forces and reaching agreement on power sharing
* completion of the deployment of the African Mission in Burundi.

The Deputy President is scheduled to return to South Africa on Monday evening.
