IMBIZO FOCUS WEEK
Tasneem Essop, Western Cape Minister of Transport, Public Works and Property Management, will visit the Karoo in the next two days. Her visit is part of the National Imbizo Focus Week where national and provincial ministers cover the length and breadth of the country to launch various government initiated programmes. The Imbizo Focus Week also serves as a tool for government to touch base with the citizenry.
Of particular importance to the people of the Western Cape the Focus Week will serve to showcase the initiatives by the Department of Transport and Public Works, of which Ms Essop is the Minister. Through the Community-Based Public Works Programme (CBPWP), the department has been able to build access roads to poorer communities in the Karoo, where employment was drawn from the locals. This empowerment drive has enabled people to be able to put food on their tables. Below is the Minister's itinerary:
