IMBIZO FOCUS WEEK - 13 OCTOBER TO 17 OCTOBER 2003

A bumper-packed Eastern Cape Imbizo Focus Week is off to a busy start today with activities planned for four district municipalities. Imbizo will run over the following week, with politicians and government officials visiting communities and addressing their concerns.

Imbizo kicked off today with the opening of the Multi-Purpose Community Centre at Sanddrift by National Minister Stella Sigcau and Premier Makhenkesi Stofile. MECs Barry, Neer, Nkwinti and Goqwana will also be meeting communities in Nelson Mandela Metropole, Amathole District Municipality and Chris Hani respectively. The day will be rounded off with a dinner with the Eastern Cape Master Builder Association in Port Elizabeth, attended by Minister Sigcau and MECs Neer and Barry.

On Tuesday 14 October MECs Mamase and Nkwinti will deliver a tractor to the Siyazama Vegetable Project in Middledrift, while at Willowmore in Cacadu District Municipality MECs Neer and Goqwana will officiate at the handover of an ambulance. A health stakeholders meeting will also take place.

The Imbizo Focus Week programme highlight for Wednesday 15 October includes the handover of an ambulance and mobile clinic by the national Minister of Health, Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, in Burgersdorp. In Mqanduli in the OR Tambo District the focus will be on the Integrated Community Registration Programme and the distribution of food parcels.

Minister of Public Service and Administration Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi will focus her attention on the community of Mkambati in the OR Tambo District where she will address communities and visit various local projects on Thursday 16 October. On the same day MECs Jajula and Mamase will be in Walmer in Nelson Mandela Metropole and MEC Nkwinti will be at Sabalele for an electricity switch-on.

On Friday 17 October it will be the turn of Ukhahlamba and Alfred Nzo District Municipalities. Agriculture and Land Affairs minister Thoko Didiza will officiate at the handover of 13 tractors for an agricultural project in Sterkspruit. She will be assisted by MEC for Agriculture Max Mamase. Two activities have been scheduled for Alfred Nzo with the handover of the Prutle and Zimpofu access roads in Ward 31, and a sod turning for a clinic in Umzimkhulu.
