PRESIDENT MBEKI LEAVES FOR NIGERIA

Union Buildings - President Thabo Mbeki will tomorrow, Wednesday, 28 May, depart for Abuja, Nigeria, to attend the NEPAD Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee Meeting on 28 May.

The President will together with other African Heads of State and Government also attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday, 29 May.

President Mbeki will then proceed to France, Evian, for the G8 Summit of 1 - 2 June 2003.

The 7th NEPAD Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee Meeting is crucial to the advancement of Africa's development agenda, especially since it takes place a few days prior to the G8 Summit. This meeting will therefore create space for African leaders further to prepare for the G8 Summit and consider the NEPAD/G8 partnership.
