TECHNOLOGY EASES REGISTRATION
Employing cutting edge technology, the Department of Labour has made the registration of domestic workers with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) easier, with the launch of a new fax service allowing people to retrieve and send the relevant documents to UIF 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Users - who have access to a fax machine - can dial 0867 122 000 and after following the voice prompts will get the registration forms faxed directly in either English or Afrikaans. Once the forms have been completed they can be faxed back to 0867 13 000, where they will be converted to e-mail to facilitate processing.
The new system can process in excess of 500 simultaneous transactions and should ease the bottlenecks being experienced as thousands of people respond to the Minister of Labour Membathisi Mdladlana's call for all Domestic Worker employer's to register. Almost 150 000 employers have already registered.
It remains possible to register via the Internet - just visit labour.gov.za - and also by going to your nearest Labour Centre. The UIF call centre also remains in operation.
