UIF CALL CENTRE COMES ON-LINE

As from Monday 17 March 2003 employers can register their domestic workers telephonically when the new Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) call centre comes on-line.

The call centre has been set up to facilitate the registration of domestic workers ahead of their inclusion in the fund on 1 April 2003. The centre will also operate extended hours until that date.

The call centre's number is 012-337 1680 and it will be open from 08h00 to 18h30 on weekdays and from 08h00 to 12h00 on Saturdays.

The Fund continues to serve its core purpose to provide short-term relief to people when they become unemployed or are unable to work because of illness. The Fund also provides maternity and adoption benefits and offers relief to the dependents of deceased contributors. The Fund has also brought a number of important changes with the inclusion of domestic workers.

The overwhelming response to the UIF has prompted the Fund to improve its processes. From Wednesday 19 March, it will also be possible to complete the entire registration process on-line. Currently all necessary forms are available on www.labour.gov.za (follow the UIF links).

Employers and employees may also call the UIF offices countrywide, the Labour Centres and the Multi Purposes Centres for any information. To ensure efficient and rapid assistance and service, employers and employees are requested to have the following documents when calling any of the offices:
* The 13 bar-coded ID numbers of both employer and employee
* Address and telephone numbers
* Remuneration of each employee as well as the address details of where they are employed.

The UIF is committed to providing support to all members of society at times when they need assistance most. The UIF is working to establish and maintain efficient and effective systems that will enable it to deliver consistently high levels of service.

Any enquiries about UIF, the registration of domestic workers or the submission of employer declarations can be directed to 012 337 1700 or as from Monday (17 March) 012 337 1680.
