MEDIA ADVISORY: WORLD AIDS DAY
Deputy President Jacob Zuma will not be able to attend the World AIDS Day commemoration in Kimberley, Northern Cape, tomorrow, on the 1st of December 2002.
The Director-General in the Presidency, the Reverend Frank Chikane, will present the Deputy President's speech to the gathering. The Deputy President heads the Presidential Task Team on AIDS, and chairs the South African National AIDS Council.
The Deputy President is currently in Tanziania, Dar es Salaam, facilitating cease-fire talks between the National Council for the Defence of Democracy-Forces for the Defence of Democracy and the Burundi Transitional Government. He will tomorrow attend the 19th Summit of the Great Lakes Heads of States on Burundi, which will take place at Arusha in Tanzania. The Summit is aimed at reviewing progress made so far in the negotiations and charting the way forward regarding the peace process.
The Deputy President will return to South Africa tomorrow night, (1 December). On Monday, 2 December, he will travel to New York, United States to brief the United Nations Secretary-General Koffi Annan and the United Nations Security Council on the Burundi peace process.
