MPUMALANGA EXECUTIVE COUNCIL RESOLUTIONS AT VOLKSRUST IN SEME MUNICIPALITY
The Executive Council has approved the following at its sitting today, Wednesday, 20 November 2002, at Volksrust Council Offices, Seme Municipality.
* That the water, rural roads and youth development intervention fund should be increased from R125.228 million to R131.978 million
* That Mr Lemmy Mdluli - Director: Small Medium Micro Enterprises (SMME) Development - should attend a workshop in Berlin, Germany, from 19 to 22 November 2002.
The Executive Council announces that the province will be launching the Constitutional Week and the RESPECT campaign on 29 November 2002 at Mhluzi Community Hall in Middelburg. Premier Mahlangu and Minister Penuell Maduna will grace the occasion.
SERVICE DELIVERY REPORT
Mpumalanga Provincial government has invested over R37.5 million in various projects in this municipality.
1. A total amount of about R4.5 million is being spent to build 24 classrooms, 18 toilets at Amersfoort Combined Primary School, Injabulo Primary Schools and Uthaka Secondary School at a cost of R4,164,676.00 and eight (8) toilets at Simtholile Primary School, Welgewond Primary School and Sakhisizwe Primary School to the tune of R166,700.00 as well as renovations of toilets at Sangqotho Primary school to the tune of R193,054.00
These projects were started during the third quarter of 2002 and will possibly be completed early next year, 2003
2. Government is building a community health centre at the cost of about R2.9 million at Perdekop. This project was started early this year and will possibly be completed towards the end of this year.
3. An amount of over R25.6 million is spent on the resealing of the Volksrust to Vrede road and the reconstruction of the Driefontein to Piet Retief road.
Volksrust to Vrede road was started in March 2002 and completed in August 2002. Driefontein to Piet Retief road was started in August this year and will possibly be completed towards the end of 2003.
4. More than R2.3 million is used to phase out the bucket toilet system at Amersfoort and Wakkerstroom. This project started towards the end of 2001 and will possibly be completed early 2003.
5. An amount of about R1.2 million is spent to subsidise the following poverty alleviation projects in this area:
Poultry, piggery, merino sheep testing and management, vegetables, farming and vegetable garden at Amersfoort, Daggakraal, Wakkerstroom, PerdeKop and Volksrust.
6. Government is spending about R1 million to feed 11 097 learners at 51 primary schools throughout this municipality. The project has created jobs for 79 women.
