STATEMENT ON THE LEADERSHIP OF THE RESERVE BANK
President Thabo Mbeki has noted reports in the media regarding the position of the Deputy-Governor of the Reserve Bank, Ms Gill Marcus.
The President today discussed this matter with both the Governor of the Reserve Bank and Ms Marcus and he wishes to indicate that Ms Marcus is not resigning from the Bank.
Speculation around this matter, including the so-called differences of opinion on issues such as inflation targeting, is therefore unfounded.
