TRIBUTE TO THE LATE MINISTER STEVE TSHWETE, MINISTER OF SAFETY AND SECURITY

The Public Service Commission has learnt with profound shock of the untimely death of Mr Steve Tshwete, Minister of Safety and Security. Like the millions of our people I sadly extend, on behalf of the Commission, the staff in the Office of the Commission and myself, profound and heartfelt condolences to the family, the Government of the Republic of South Africa and to the ANC.

Steve Tshwete is one political leader who the Commission unreservedly acknowledges has acquitted himself with utmost distinction and effectiveness in handling portfolio responsibilities he was entrusted with; first the Sports, and lately Safety and Security. He managed his portfolios with dignity, and efficient political leadership and oversight.

In its assignment of evaluating Departmental performance, the Commission has noted in particular Mr Tshwete's outstanding leadership and insight in the transformation of the South African Police Services, which in a relatively short space of time has achieved irreversible gains in our government's quest for a better South Africa without crime. The nation cannot thank Steve sufficiently for the enormous contribution he made to its safety and security and in boosting the image and the morale of our police force to discharge this task.

The Commission salutes this patriotic son of the land who committed and sacrificed his entire life in the service of our people. We associate ourselves with the pain and grief and the great sense of loss felt by the family, as well as the comrades, friends and the staff members, the colleagues in government and the ANC.

Silaleni ngoxolo, akwehlanga lungehli!!

PROF STAN SANGWENI

Issued by Public Service Commission
