At its meeting on Wednesday, 17 April, Cabinet held a comprehensive discussion on HIV/AIDS. A statement in this regard has been issued and is available on the government website.

The meeting noted the Report of the South African Observer Mission to the Presidential Elections in Zimbabwe, which has been received and accepted by President Thabo Mbeki. The Report will be made public by the SAOM in due course.

Cabinet approved the proposed relocation of Durban International Airport to La Mercy and the renaming of the relocated airport, "King Shaka International Airport". It also approved, in principle, the KwaZulu-Natal Logistic Gateway incorporating the Dube Trade Port Industrial Development Zone and King Shaka Airport. The meeting also ratified the following proclamations:

* designation of a specific area within the West Bank area of East London as an Industrial Development Zone (IDZ); and
* designation of a specific area between the industrial area and the Port of Richard's Bay as an IDZ.

Cabinet noted a report on the progress being made by the International Marketing Council in implementing its mandate both within SA and internationally, including the process towards defining a "country brand identity". Government commits itself to work with all other partners in this effort to ensure that South Africans join hands in promoting our country.

The Road Accident Fund Amendment Bill, which facilitates the appointment of the Fund's Board, was approved for submission to Parliament.

The following appointments were approved:
* Board of the Independent Development Trust, chaired by HMS Msimang;
* Board of Tariffs and Trade, chaired by Prof RT Bell;
* Members of the Board of the Council for Geoscience and the SA Diamond Board;
* A Deputy Director-General (DDG) in the Policy Unit (PCAS) in the Presidency and one DDG in the Department of Housing.

Cabinet received a report on the condition of Minister Steve Tshwete and it wished him a speedy recovery.
