MINISTER HOLDS HISTORIC PARTNERSHIP MEETING WITH BUSINESS COMMUNITY
The Minister of Social Development, Dr Zola Skweyiya, will tomorrow (19 April 2002) from 8:00 till 12:30, at the Sandton Crowne Plaza, hold the first ever and historic meeting with the business community to discuss partnership on Social Development matters including children, older persons, poverty, HIV/AIDS and disability.
"This is the first and indeed historic meeting of its nature and we hope it will go a long way in ensuring co-operation between the Government and the private sector in building a caring society and a better life for all our people especially children living in poor communities", said the Minister.
The meeting is expected to be attended by amongst others Mr Robbie Sparks (Old Mutual), Mr Aggrey Klaaste (Sowetan) and Mr Peter Matlhare (SABC).
Others include representatives from institutions such as MTN, Transnet, Standard Bank, Cell C, BHP Billiton, Telkom, ABIL (African Bank) and Afrikaanse Handels Institute.
One of the objectives of the roundtable is to set up a process for a business summit as well as identification of community-based projects on which partnerships could be build.
Mr Raymond Ackerman and Mr Cyril Ramaphosa are patrons of this process.
Minister Skweyiya and Cyril Ramaphosa will hold a press conference at 12:30 at the Crowne Plaza to brief the media and the community about this historic initiative.
