IMBIZO FOCUS WEEK GETS UNDERWAY IN THE EASTERN CAPE
Eastern Cape Premier Rev Makhenkesi Stofile will next week on Friday (19 April 2002) launch a housing project at Coldstream in the Coega Municipality - Cacadu District.
The launch will be part of Imbizo Focus Week - a government driven programme, whereby ministers, premiers, members of executive council and government officials interact with ordinary citizens and take cognisance of their daily problems.
More that 300 people of the Coldstream community are expected to benefit from R1,8 million projects. On the same day the national police commissioner, Mr Jackie Selebi, and the MEC for Safety, Liaison & Transport, Dennis Neer, will be opening a new police station at Aliwal North.
Meanwhile, in Peddie tghe Department of Public Service and Administration Minister, Ms Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi, will be launching the National Human Resource Development Strategy.
On Thursday, 18 April 2002, the Communications Minister, Dr Ivy Matsepe-Cassaburri, accompanied by acting provincial MEC for Health, Mr Max Mamase, will be visiting Chris Hani District municipality where they will be addressing the community of Matyantya about the importance of telecommunications in health, nutrition and HIV-AIDS challenges.
This year's theme of the Imbizo outreach programme is "Lend a hand - Push back frontiers of poverty to broaden access to a better life". By attending Imbizo events, everyone can hear not only what government has done for the people, but also what the people can do to build a better life for all. This programme is a chance for government to listen and learn from the people on their ideas about the best ways of speeding up programmes and overcoming problems in implementation.
During this focus week councillors, mayors, MPLs, the Premier of the Province, Rev Makhenkesi Stofile, MPs and Ministers will be interacting with citizens across the province.
