ZUMA TO RETURN TO SA FROM DAKAR, SENEGAL, ON SUNDAY
We have been advised that Deputy President Jacob Zuma will return to South Africa from Dakar, Senegal, on Sunday.
He will leave Dakar at 6am.
This follows his visit to Paris, France, on 8 February and Dakar on 9 February for meetings to discuss the implementation of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD).
The Paris meeting was hosted by French President, Jacques Chirac, and the Dakar engagement by the Senegalese President, Abdoulaye Wade, and the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair.
The informal meetings were aimed at securing the support of the G8 in the implementation of NEPAD and part of the process of mobilising the international committee for NEPAD.
Deputy President Zuma said he was encouraged by the active support of Britain and France and said this augured well for the success of NEPAD.
He said the time had come for Africa to produce concrete action plans to be ready for presentation at the next G8 summit in Canada.
NEPAD presented a window of opportunity for Africa which was not to be missed, Deputy President Zuma said at the Dakar meeting.
