MABUDAFHASI ON ROAD SHOW IN NORTHERN CAPE
The Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, will next week embark on a four-day road show in the Northern Cape to assess the progress of poverty alleviation projects in the province.
The road show, from 4 - 7 February, will afford the Deputy Minister an opportunity to interact with communities, listen to their grievances as well as their success stories.
She will be hosted by the province's Premier, Manne Dipico; MEC for Environment and Tourism, Thabo Makwaya; MEC for Agriculture, Dawid Rooi; as well as the mayors of Matzikamma and Kamiesberg municipalities.
The Deputy Minister will be accompanied by the chairperson of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Environmental Affairs and Tourism, David Molusi, the department's Chief Director for Biodiversity and Heritage, Maria Mbengashe, and Phakamani Buthelezi from Marine and Coastal Management.
Among the places they will visit are Alexander Bay, Vanrhynsdorp, Sanddrift, Kuboes, Eksteenfontein, Steinkopf and Paulshoek.
Apart from visiting the poverty alleviation projects, Ms Mabudafhasi will also visit and hold discussions on the controversial "holiday squatter camp" at Groenrivier, which is being illegally occupied.
Government has since 1996 been negotiating with the squatters to relocate and allow for the development of the land into a national park.
