GALESHEWE, KIMBERLEY URBAN RENEWAL LAUNCH - 2 FEBRUARY 2002
The Township of Galeshewe in Kimberley will this weekend, see the launch of the Presidential Urban Renewal Project.
The historic township of Galeshewe is the first in the new year to be earmarked for the launch of this presidential project. The other was Alexandra in Gauteng in 2001.
Galeshewe also has the honour of having being designated as a national heritage site by the South African Heritage Resources Unit under the Department of Arts, Culture Science and Technology.
Galeshewe was among several urban and rural nodes, which were identified by a presidential task team early last year as being worthy of receiving this much-needed upgrade to their civil infrastructure. President Thabo Mbeki subsequently gave the projects the go-ahead during his State of the Nation address at the opening of parliament last year.
The launch will take place at the Galeshewe stadium in Kimberley. The launch will start at 9am on Saturday, 2 February 2002.
The Deputy Minister for Provincial and Local Government, Madam Ntombozana Botha, will be the key speaker.
Amongst other projects a sanitation and roads scheme will be launched on Saturday.
Media kits will be distributed at the launch for accredited news personnel.
Your presence will be much appreciated.
