SOUTH AFRICAN MALARIA CONFERENCE (MAGOEBASKLOOF)
The Northern Province Department of Health and Welfare is hosting the annual South African Malaria Conference, which will take place as follows:
Date: 26 - 28 November 2001
Venue: Magoebaskloof Hotel, near Tzaneen
This year's conference will focus, amongst others, on the following areas:
* Strengthening collaboration between provinces within South Africa, SADC, research institutions and business;
* Developing effective mechanisms on how to address the issue of malaria vector resistance; and
* Greater community participation and involvement in fighting malaria.
The Conference will be attended by delegates from the Departments of Health in the Northern Province, Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, national office, NGOs involved in malaria control, scientists and malaria control personnel from Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Zambia, as well as officials from the World Health Organisation.
During the Conference, there will also be meetings of the National Malaria Advisory Group, Sub-committee on malaria treatment, cross border meeting between South Africa and Zimbabwe, and the Seacat Task Force (group working on malaria treatment resistance research)
The Northern Province MEC for Health and Welfare, Mr Sello Moloto, will officially open the Conference on Monday, 26 November at 10h30.
