STATEMENT BY MR GERALD MORKEL, PREMIER OF THE WESTERN CAPE, ON THE RESIGNATION OF PIET MEYER
Minister Piet Meyer informed me this morning of his decision to resign from the Western Cape Cabinet. Instead of sacrificing his principles and succumbing to the enormous pressure currently placed on Cabinet Members from the outside, Minister Meyer decided to withdraw from Cabinet and stay on as an ordinary Member of the Provincial Parliament.
It is with sadness and understanding that I take note of his decision. Minister Meyer has delivered a valuable contribution as far as Transport, Sport and Recreation in our province are concerned. I am convinced that as Member of the Provincial Parliament he will continue to play an important role to strengthen democracy in the Western Cape. Piet Meyer remains a valued friend and colleague.
