MPUMALANGA EXECUTIVE COUNCIL'S DECISIONS AT GREATER DIPALESENG MUNICIPALITY

The Mpumalanga Executive Council has approved the following at its sitting today, Wednesday, 24 October 2001, at Greater Dipaleseng Municipality:

* The Executive Council would like to announce that the Tenure Upgrading Pilot Programme's Procedures and Guidelines are ready for implementation. Very soon, various role players in the province will be consulted for comment through public participation process.

* Mr. Milcharles Shabangu has been appointed as a Deputy Chairperson of Mpumalanga Liquor Board. Also, Brigadier Mohle Gun Nkosi and Ms Hilda Themelia Mtshali have been appointed as additional members to this Board.

* Mr. Richard Khethela Rikhotso has been appointed Director: Roads and Maintenance for the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport.

SERVICE DELIVERY REPORT

Government has invested over R19 million in various projects in the Greater Dipaleseng Municipality viz.

* Over R15 million has been invested for the construction of 1180 project linked houses at Balfour Extensions 5 and 10. About 380 of these housing units have already been completed.

* A further amount of R360 000 has been set aside to purchase housing units and secure tenure rights for the 23 out of 71 households at Grootvlei.

* An amount of R1,5 million has been earmarked for the construction of 10 classrooms, 1 administration block and 8 toilets at Isifisisethu Secondary School at Siyathemba Township. The project started in August 2001 and will possibly be completed in February 2002.

* Government is also spending R209 298 for the construction of a total of 16 pit toilets at Siyathemba Primary School in Siyathemba and Holmdene Primary School.

* A further amount of R312 000 has been set aside for renovations at Setsheng School in Siyathemba, Tsepeha Combined School at Balfour Farm and Holmdene Primary School.

* Government is spending R272 000 to renovate the Nthorwane and Siyathemba Stadiums. These projects started in 1999 and the renovations are ongoing.

* 13 963 pupils in 125 schools are benefiting from the Primary School Nutrition Intervention. The project costs about R173 160 and it employs 148 women. This project started in April 2001 and is ongoing.

* The government has joined hands with Eskom to provide a booklet on safety and security in order to sensitise pupils on the criminal justice system. Eskom has donated R28 448 towards this project.

* Lastly, the Executive Council would like to pass its condolences to the families of the matrons of Themba Hospital who passed away yesterday in a tragic accident whilst travelling back to the hospital from a meeting at Evander.
