PREMIER TO LIGHT THE "TORCH OF TOLERANCE"
The Province of the Eastern Cape, today, 21 August 2001, will join the rest of the nation in lighting the "torch of tolerance" as part of the build up programme to the World Conference Against Racism to be held in Durban at the end of the month.
Eastern Cape Premier, Rev. MA Stofile, will light the "torch of tolerance" during a short ceremony that would be held at the Provincial Legislature Chamber from 11:30 - 12:30. The Members of the Executive Council and Members of the Provincial Legislature will join the Premier during the event.

The programme is as follows:
11h45: All Members of the Provincial Legislature, the Premier and the MECs converge in the Chamber.
11h50: Prayer/convening of the snap session
11h53: Acting Speaker outlines the purpose of the gathering
12h00: The Premier, flanked by the Speaker and the Executive Mayor of Buffalo City, lights the "torch of tolerance".
12h03: Premier delivers his message of commitment and support for the World Conference Against Racism
14h15: Closure and the singing of the National Anthem
Other institutions, local government structures and political parties have also developed their own programmes that would implemented in various areas of the province.
