WOMEN'S DAY FESTIVITIES AT OUDTSHOORN

Magnificent celebrations will mark Women's Day at Oudtshoorn this year. The Western Cape Cultural Commission cordially invites all interested parties to come and enjoy Women's Day on 9 August 2001 at 11:00 at Bridgton Junior Secondary School.

Come and listen to messages for the empowerment of women and enjoy the top local entertainment: song, dance, piano recitals and stoep stories (Poem Mooney and André Boesak). There will be ample opportunity to meet Miss South Africa (Jo-Anne Strauss) and to get her signature and photograph.

The interesting programme for the day is as follows:

10:30: Street parade (Oudtshoorn Boys' Brigade, drum majorettes, women's organisations)

11:00: Master of ceremonies: M. Watson

11:05: Mayor: J. Swiegelaar

11:10: Piano recital: S. Witbooi

11:20: Poem: A. Horne, "Ma-Antjie Krog"

11:25: Song: Perfect Joy

11:35: Speech: V.A. du Toit, The inner and external beauty of a woman

11:50: Dance: Sarafina dancers

12:00: Stoep stories: Poem Mooney and André Boesak

12:25: Speech: D. Bruce, Economic empowerment of women

12:45: Song: E. Paxton

12:55: Poem: H. Coetzee, "Brief vir Mammie"

13:00: Main speaker: Miss South Africa 2001 (Jo-Anne Strauss)

13:20: Choir: Bridgton Junior Secondary School

13:25: Dance: Calitzdorp Live Entertainers

13:30: End of programme Signatures and photographs - Miss South Africa Refreshments

14:00: Reception (guests of honour, Miss South Africa, sponsors and media representatives)
