MINISTER OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, DR ZOLA SKWEYIYA, WILL ANNOUNCE DRASTIC MEASURES FOLLOWING THE TRAGIC DEATH OF MR. L KLINGENBERG, A RESIDENT AT THE NOUPOORT CHRISTIAN CARE CENTRE (NCCC) RECENTLY

The Minister of Social Development, Dr Zola Skweyiya, will brief the Media about the findings of an investigation into the death of Mr Logan Klingenberg in a disciplined cell at the Noupoort Christian Care Centre on the 15th of May 2001.

The Minister is also expected to outline drastic measures that will be undertaken to deal with the way in which the NCCC has been operating.

"The report indicates that the manner and the circumstances under which Mr Klingenberg died are totally unacceptable and despicable. We will take drastic measures and do all in our power to ensure that such deaths do not occur. This is one death too many," the Minister said.

The Minister launched an immediate investigation into the death of Mr Klingenberg and a report of the investigation was submitted to him on 23 May 2001.

Meantime the Minister has sent a message of condolence to the bereaved family. The family will hold a funeral in Pretoria tomorrow.
