GAUTENG GAMBLING BOARD CLEARED OF IRREGULARITIES BY SPECIAL INVESTIGATING UNIT
The Gauteng Provincial Government welcomes the findings of an investigation by the Special Investigating Unit which have cleared the Gauteng Gambling Board of any irregularities. The Unit has informed Gauteng Premier Mbhazima Shilowa that the investigation into the Gauteng Gambling Board, initiated more than two years ago, has been finalised and that no evidence of any irregularities was found.
The Gauteng Provincial Government wishes to use the opportunity to express its confidence in the Board and its work.
The investigation by the Special Investigation Unit into alleged irregularities related to the awarding of casino licences was proclaimed on 30 April 1999. The Premier had urged the Unit to speedily complete the investigation.
