Eastern Cape Premier, Rev Makhenkesi Stofile, today (May 2, 2001) dispelled newspaper the reports that he has been getting ready to contest for the position of the ANC Deputy President as hoax stories.

"As usual the media is on a fishing spree. This time they are fishing in the wrong waters. Their speculation is nothing but a lot of nonsense. I will not contest for the Deputy President of the ANC position. I will never contest for that position or any other position in the ANC's national leadership," he said.

"Whoever raised the motion in the mind of whatever reporter does not know me that much. They also know very little about the ANC. i will not be used to create confusion in the organisation."
