MINISTER OF EDUCATION, PROFESSOR KADER ASMAL, WILL ADDRESS UNESCO AFRICAN SCHOLARS AT THE CAPE TECHNIKON ON 4 MAY 2001 (FRIDAY).
The Minister of Education, Professor Kader Asmal, and the visiting Director General of UNESCO, Mr Koichiro Matsuura, are jointly to address the UNESCO Pilot African Exchange Programme (UPAAE) at the Cape Technikon on May 4 (Friday) at 16h00.
UPAAE was established after a conference of Ministers of Education of African Member States in 1998.
Its purpose was a commitment to the setting up of regional centres of excellence, a data bank on African intellectual capacity, the sharing of materials and exchange of African expertise to further regional collaboration.
Currently the programme has 28 UPAAE Fellows, from more than 17 different African countries, attached to institutions of higher learning in the Western Cape region for the period February 1 to August 31.
The programme was launched in South Africa on March 15.
