In line with the recent implementation of the Promotion of Access to Information Act, the Mpumalanga Provincial Government would like to announce that the Director-General, Advocate Stanley Soko, is the Information Officer of the Province. He has appointed all Heads of Departments to act as Deputy Information Officers for their respective Departments.

The Act came into operation on March 9, 2001, with the exception of sections 10, 14, 16 and 51. It is significant in that it now allows the general public access to such information that they may require or need, to protect their rights.

"We have, and always will promote and protect the individual's constitutional right of access to information. In fact we are totally committed to fully comply with the Act as the right to access information is enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

"This Act now ensures that information held by the State will be accessible and available to everyone," the Director General commented.
