DAVID MALATSI PLEDGES HIS SUPPORT FOR TAKKIE TAX

Minister David Malatsi, Minister of Social Services and Poverty Relief in the Western Cape, today pledged his support for Takkie Tax Day. He paid his "tax" and will be able to wear his Takkies to the office with pride during the day.

The day is organised by Cape Town Child Welfare to raise funds for underprivileged children in aid of Child Welfare.

The Minister bought his tax from Mrs Elsabé van Zyl, Advertising Manager for Spar, SuperSpar and KwikSpar Western Cape. The Takkie Tax stickers are available at any of the Spar outlets at R5,00 each.

The Minister said that efforts like these are going to become very important. When the Child Support Grant replaces the Child Maintenance Grant many children will loose support they were used to. Every one involved with Child Care will therefore have to try to muster the sources available and think of new and creative ways of looking after the needy children.

He urged parents who qualify for the Child Maintenance grant to make sure that they are registered in order to receive the grant on time. In the Western Cape the target quota for taking up the grant is on schedule, but it is important that every body takes notice of the registration process.

Mr. Malatsi also encourages every one who will be wearing shoes, to buy their stickers and spend the day in those "old faithfuls". It is for a good cause.
