STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER FOR PUBLIC SERVICE AND ADMINISTRATION, MS GERALDINE FRASER-MOLEKETI, ON THE LAUNCH OF THE JOB SUMMIT
Today the Public Service Co-ordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC) formally launched the Public Service Job Summit to be held on 29-31 January 2001, at Pietersburg, in the Northern Province.
Minister Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi has welcomed the progress made by the parties at the PSCBC, and appreciate the assistance of Nedlac and the facilitators. "We see the Summit as the forum where dialogue on transformation, employment practices and socio-economic development issues will be advanced," she said.
To date parties have presented, negotiated and discussed position papers with the view to reach a framework agreement. "We expect the Job Summit to identify and formalise options or strategies that will be beneficiary to the public service" she stated. The intention will be to advance the ideals of transformation and democracy in line with government's commitment to Batho Pele.
"Government believes it is only through constructive dialogue between role-players that partnership and co-operative governance can be achieved," she concluded.
