APPOINTMENT OF THE NEW ECDC BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Eight new faces have been included in the new 14-person board of the Eastern Cape Development Corporation (ECDC).

The announcement comes more than six months after the merger by the Centre for Marketing and Investment (Cimec) and the ECDC as one single body to drive development in the Eastern Cape. MEC Enoch Godongwana's new faces, which bring a variety of expertise, include East London Port Manager Nosipho Damasane, Chartered Accountant Sango Ntsaluba and businessman Willie Gauss.

The MEC said it was a very difficult decision to appoint this crucial board, which must guide the management in achieving its strategic aims. "I have applied my mind to selecting this important Board and although I would have liked it to be more gender oriented, I am happy with the expertise brought together".

Other new faces are Mkokheli Bovungana, Nominise Gogo, Nombuyiselo Ncwayiba, Andile Sihlahla and Thembinkosi Nyangiwe. Board members retained include, former Cimec chairman Tembela Sofisa who is Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs and former ECDC chairman Andile Ntsonkotha.

MEC Godongwana thanked the outgoing members for their contribution, whom he described as having been dedicated and handled their tasks without flinching. He also thanked the unsuccessful individuals who have made their names available for nomination, saying they have displayed interest in being of service to the economic development of the province. Others retained are Pumela Maxakato (ECDC), Alfred Da Costa (Cimec), and Nkokeli Vuba (ECDC).

"The criteria which informed my decision include their potential for development input, financial capacity, legal background, organizational expertise". Other factors considered were political gender representation, geographic spread, experience, continuity, business sector knowledge, labour and inclusion of the disabled.

"The Board will definitely empower us to achieve our aims", Godongwana said.
