PREMIER MANNE DIPICO'S MESSAGE OF SUPPORT TO YOUNG AIDS ACTIVIST, NKOSI JOHNSON

On behalf of the Northern Cape Provincial Government, the Executive Council and the people of the province, we extend our support to Nkosi Johnson, members of his family and friends during this trying times of his life.

We also wish to acknowledge his enormous contribution in the ongoing-fight against HIV/AIDS.

As a young AIDS activist, Nkosi Johnson had played a pivotal role in raising awareness about the dreadful disease. His contribution has highlighted the plight of people infected and affected by AIDS.

Nkosi Johnson had the courage to say to our country, "come and witness the reality of AIDS; see the devastation in our community; see the courage of those who live with the infection and of the children that have lost their parents because of the epidemic."

We admire you for your bravery when you put a human face to AIDS and breaking the silence. If we are to succeed then all of us must follow your example and take responsibility for dealing with this problem.

We wish you strength and courage during this difficult period of your life.

Issued by: Office of the Premier, Northern Cape, 10 January 2000
