NEW WESTERN CAPE MEC OF SOCIAL SERVICES AND POVERTY RELIEF, DAVID MALATSI, VISITS FIRE-STRUCK FAMILIES AT CROSSROADS
New Western Cape MEC of Social Services and Poverty Relief, David Malatsi, visited Crossroads this afternoon where fires have destroyed the shack dwellings of 17 families. After an inspection of the affected area, he spoke to the families as well as a representative of the local committee and conveyed to them that:
* Social relief assistance will be provided to the families by the Department;
* A team from the Athlone District Office will fill in the forms for assistance from tomorrow (Thursday);
* Social assistance of between R 500-00 and R 800-00 per family will be provided depending on the size of the family; and
* Once all the necessary paper work had been completed, families may expect payments as soon as next week.
