PRESIDENT THABO MBEKI TO VISIT THE UNITED REPUBLIC OF TANZANIA
At the invitation of President Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania, President Mbeki will undertake a short working visit to Dar Es Salaam on 26 and 27 September 1999.
President Mbeki and President Mkapa have met on several occasions over the past few months. The visit will provide the opportunity to continue dialogue on various issues of mutual concern.
Discussions will focus on bilateral relations, as well as on regional issues. President Mkapa is known to have played an important role in support of various initiatives to bring about peace to the region.
During his visit, President Mbeki will also be the guest of honour and keynote speaker at the First Annual General Meeting of the Electoral Commissions' Forum of SADC countries.
This important and prestigious meeting will take place in Dar Es Salaam on 27 - 28 September under the theme "The Role of Democratic Elections in Promoting Regional Peace and Security". President Mbeki will make use of this platform to emphasize the importance of democracy and good governance in Africa, and especially its importance to the realisation of the goals of the African Renaissance.
