STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT MBEKI'S PARTICIPATION AT THE OAU SUMMIT
President Thabo Mbeki today led a South African government delegation to attend the 35th Summit of the Organisation of African Unity scheduled from 12-14 July in Algiers.
President Mbeki is accompanied by Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Nkosazana Zuma, Mrs Zanele Mbeki and Reverend Frank Chikane, the Director-General in the Office of the President.
Part of the South African government delegation already in Algiers includes Deputy Foreign Minister Aziz Pahad, Welile Nhlapo, Deputy Director-General Foreign Affairs, South Africa's Ambassador to United Nations Dumisani Kumalo, Chief of Protocol Ambassador Billy Modise, and South Africa's Ambassador to Addis Ababa, Kingsley Mamabolo.
President Mbeki will lead a discussion by Heads of State on the Challenges of Globalisation on the African continent and also participate in a parallel discussion on security in Africa.
