MEDIA STATEMENT ON THE VISIT BY THE SOUTH AFRICAN MINISTER OF TRANSPORT, MR SR MAHARAJ, TO ITALY
The South African Minister of Transport, Mr SR (Mac) Maharaj, accompanied by
the Director-General of the Department of Transport, Mr Dipak Patel, will
pay an official visit to Italy from 15 to 17 April 1999.
During his visit Mr Maharaj will meet with the Italian Minister of Transport
and Shipping, Mr Tiziano Treu. Discussions will centre around issues of
mutual interest. The Italian Airports Company, Aeroporti di Roma (ADR),
obtained a twenty percent stake in the Airports Company of South Africa
(ACSA) during 1998 . As a follow-up to the privatisation process of ACSA,
Minister Maharaj will hold discussions with Executives of the Italian
Institute for Reconstruction (IRI) and Aeroporto di Roma (ADR), as well as
senior officials in the Italian Ministry of the Treasury and Budget. The
visit will serve to further strengthen the existing good bilateral relations
between South Africa and Italy.
