STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER FOR SAFETY AND SECURITY, MR F.S. MUFAMADI, CAPE TOWN, 11 MARCH 1998
SUBJECT: BUDGET ALLOCATION FOR THE SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE
The Department for Safety and Security has noted its allocation of R13,7 billion in the budget speech of Finance Minister Trevor Manuel this afternoon.
Police management are currently urgently assessing the implications thereof and will in due course be in a position to say exactly how it will affect the operations and basic policing programmes of the South African Police Service.
It is difficult to give an estimate at first glance taking into account that a number of factors must be considered, such as inflation, the additional fuel levy and so on.
