CABINET MEETING - 19 NOVEMBER 1997
The Cabinet held its regular fortnightly meeting today in Tuynhuys, Cape Town, receiving in the main reports from the different Cabinet Committees.
The Cabinet received a report on the draft Employment Equity Bill and approved that the Bill be published for public comment and that the Bill be tabled for negotiations in the National Economic Development and Labour Council.
The Cabinet received a report on Broadcasting Policy and approved the publication of the Policy as a Green Paper.
The Cabinet received a report on the positive outcome of the implementation of the Rapid Delivery Procurement System (RDPS) and approved its adoption as an alternative model for infrastructure delivery under certain circumstances. The circumstances under which the RDPS would be used and the procurement process for the RDPS were clearly specified.
The Cabinet received a report on the shipment of plutonium and radioactive wastes and reiterated its previous decision on the matter, namely that the South African Government fully recognises the right, in terms of international law, of the innocent passage through territorial waters of ships carrying irradiated nuclear fuel cargoes.
The Cabinet received a report on the National Integrated Disability Strategy and approved that the Strategy by published as a White Paper.
The Cabinet received a report on the Transfer of Staff to Municipalities Bill, 1998 and approved that it be submitted to Parliament for consideration.
