INVITATION TO ALL MEDIA MEMBERS - A GREEN EVENT YOU CANNOT MISS!

DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS AND TOURISM: RELEASE OF CONNEPP DISCUSSION DOCUMENT, 29 March 1996

If you consider yourself to be a staunch environmentalist committed to help build a green future for South Africa, you dare not miss one of the most important green events on the environmental calendar this year - a press conference where you will receive a copy of the long-awaited Discussion Document - Towards a New Environmental Policy for South Africa.

This document forms part of Connepp, the first ever consultative process hich was launched in August 1995 to develop a national environmental policy for South Africa. The next step will be to workshop and discuss this document during the Provincial Consultation Processes. These inputs will be used to refine the Discussion Document and to draft a Green Paper which will be discussed at a second national Connepp forum. This will be followed by a White Paper, which will culminate in a national environmental policy and accompanying legislation.

The press conference will be hosted by Dr Dawie de Villiers, Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism; the Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Maj Gen Bantu Holomisa; and Dr Francois Hanekom, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism and chairperson of the multi-stakeholder Connepp Management Team.

All media are herewith invited to attend the press conference which will be held on Wednesday, 3 April 1996, at the Large Auditorium, 120 Plein Street, Cape Town, at 14:45.

IMPORTANT: To make absolutely sure that you do not miss out on this important green gathering, confirm your attendance by phoning Anna-Marie Roux at tel: (012) 310-3442 or Peter Pullen at tel: (021) 45-7240 before 2 April 1996 at 12:00.
