DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH: A NEW INITIATIVE FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF PERSONS WITH SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES (STD'S), 26 March 1996
The Directorate HIV/AIDS and STD of the Department of Health is initiating a new approach to the control of the STD as well as the HIV epidemic. It has been conclusively shown that treating persons with STD's reduces the spread of HIV.
A meeting will be held to obtain consensus on this new initiative. The meeting will bring together role players from both the private and public health sectors. The public health sector will be represented by STD programme managers, service providers as well as members of academic institutions. Private sector representatives will include private practitioners as well as occupational health personnel.
The meeting will address the importance of compassionate, non-judgemental care as part of the comprehensive management of persons seeking treatment for sexually transmitted diseases.
