NORTH WEST PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT: PREMIER MOLEFE TOURS WITH THE DANISH ROYAL FAMILY, 21 February 1996

North West Premier Molefe toured the province with the Danish Queen, and the Prince Consort today (WEDNESDAY).

He said the province was honoured to share the company of the Danish Royal Family. Mr Molefe said it was great significance the Queen had chosen to obtain first hand knowledge on the rural areas, observe their culture and witness the changes influenced by her visit in this province.

This he said when the visitors were touring Setlagole Village. He said the visit was a culmination of long-standing association existing between the Danish people and the disadvantaged people of this country.

Mr Molefe said the relationship began many years ago when the Danish people supported the democratic movements in their struggle for liberation in South Africa.

We recall with sincere gratitude the contributions. Financial and otherwise, that the Kingdom of Denmark gave to our freedom fighters in Mazimbu, Tanzania and elsewhere during the difficult part of our struggle when some leaders elected to condemn us as terrorists and communists, he said.

Mr Molefe told the Queen the village she saw was home to 16 500 people, the majority of whom had little access to basic water supply and sanitation facilities. He added that 60 percent of those people had no access to life support systems such as health, education, communication, roads, energy and other social infrastructure..

Mr Molefe concluded that the GNU in this province was committed to mobilising all resources towards the removal of the obstacles to human development by redressing all these imbalances.
