VALUE ADDED TAX SUB-COMMITTEE: DURBAN CONSULTATIVE FORUM ON VAT, 05/10/94.
The Value Added Tax Sub-Committee of the Tax Commission is to hold a Consultative Forum on VAT in Durban.
The purpose of the forum is to discuss and obtain more inputs from organisations and interested groups and individuals on the following:
1. The role of VAT as a source of revenue;
2. The zero-rating and exemption of basic foodstuffs and services;
3. The method of identifying and defining items and services as basic necessities for zero-rating;
4. Multiple rates versus single rates of VAT;
5. Means of addressing the regressivity of VAT;
6. Direct and alternative methods of targeting relief;
7. Other issues relating to VAT.
A keynote address will be delivered.
