President Jacob Zuma is highly impressed by the interest of
school children in the State of the Nation Address to be
delivered in Parliament on 11 February 2010.

The South African Police Services (SAPS), working closely
with the Green Scorpions (Environmental Management
inspectorate) today, 8 February 2010 arrested Gavin Brasher
in Welkom, Free State.
Brasher is allegedly at the centre of the illegal dumping of
healthcare risk waste (medical waste) in the Free State.

Mobile operators' proposal on interconnection rates wrong

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications
believes that Clause 5 of the proposed interconnection
agreement tabled by mobile operators (Vodacom and MTN) with
Icasa is wrong in law. At best it represents an attempt by
operators to pre-determine interconnection rates for a
prolonged period, which is both unreasonable and legally
indefensible.

Yet another taxi driver from the Retreat Taxi Association
was murdered in Vrygrond this morning. This brings to four
the total number of people shot in taxi violence in the area
in the recent past: two fatally.
The vehicle of the driver, whose name cannot be revealed at
this stage, was fired at yesterday by taxi hit men. He

the fact that an agreement has been concluded with the
Moravian Church of South Africa.
