The Department of Correctional Services to host National Offenders Football Championship, titled 'Afcon Behind Bars'

The Department of Correctional Services will be hosting a National Offenders Football Championship, titled “Afcon Behind Bars”. More than 200 youth offenders (male and female) from all the provinces will participate in the two-day tournament to be held at Pretoria Management Area’s sports grounds at Pretoria Correctional Centre.

The Department of Correctional Services recognises that participation in sport activities is an important and effective rehabilitation tool and it therefore encourages offenders to make use of such opportunities arranged for them.

This year the tournament is hosted under the theme, Combating Xenophobia, Racism and Colonisation towards a united Africa.

The National Commissioner of Correctional Services, Mr Tom Moyane will officiate the opening of the championships on Thursday, 21 February. The closing ceremony will be held on Friday morning, 22 February after which the final match will be played.
