The MEC for Health to visit Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital for a prayer

29 Mar 2010

The MEC for Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, wishes to invite journalists and leaders of various faith persuasions to accompany him in sending a prayer to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, 31 March 2010.

Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital has been at the centre of media reports for a number of reasons, including a state of service breakdown and very low staff morale. The hospital was also featured in the media following the death of more than twenty children after they contracted Klebsiella bacteria which was found to be from poor hygiene practices by the staff.

“Never has there been a more opportune moment to address the need for good behaviour in health and for all health care workers to respect, protect and fulfil human rights in all scenarios. I have called on leaders of faith persuasions to come with me to seek supernatural intervention and hope to bring back the respect into being part of the health profession. Working for health is a calling and we cannot stand on the sidewalks when certain elements are bringing such a divine and altruistic profession into disgrace,” says the MEC for Health, Dr Dhlomo.

The event will be held as follows;

Date: 1 March 2010 (Wednesday)
Time: 12h00
Venue: Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Phoenix
