Pre SONA social engagement leads Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe to agriculture dialogue in Paarl

The Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr Kgalema Motlanthe, will lead a collective of Ministers at a stakeholder dialogue meeting between farmers and farm workers in the Western Cape (Paarl) on Tuesday, 12 February ahead of the State of the Nation Address (SoNA) by President Jacob Zuma.
The dialogue, which will also be facilitated by the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Tina Joemat-Pettersson, and Rural Development and Land Reform Minister, Mr Gugile Nkwinti will the held under the theme:
“Dialogue with the farming sector for the advancement of sustainable rural development and social cohesion”.
The dialogue is part of a series of public engagement initiatives that are planned around the SoNA. The SoNA will take place on the 14 February 2013 at 19h00.
The dialogue will primarily focus on the potential of the agriculture sector as identified by the National Development Plan (the NDP). The NDP identifies agriculture as a major employment creator. The meeting will thus be a conversation between the different stakeholders on how to harness this potential for socio-economic development in rural areas.
