Minister Grant to announce the 2012 WCED Language and Mathematics results

11 Jan 2013

The Western Cape government firmly believes in the importance of systemic testing in the management of education and the improvement of learner performance.

That is why this province conducts its own extensive independent testing for Grade 3, 6 and 9 learners.

These standardised tests enables the WCED to identify problem areas and to undertake focused remedial action in the fields of literacy and numeracy performance.

In October 2012 over 250 000 Grade 3, 6 and 9 learners from 1 421 Public Ordinary and Independent schools took part in the tests.

On Monday, 14 January 2013, Minister Donald Grant and Head of Department Penny Vinjevold will be presenting the results of the 2012 testing. These results will be compared to testing in 2011, so that we can determine whether any improvements or decreases have been made in language and mathematics outcomes in the past year.

Where: 23rd floor, Sanlam Building, Golden Acre, Adderley Street, Cape Town.
Date: Monday, 14 January 2013
Time: 10h15

(Please allow for some time to park and to go through security access)
