Fifteen died on provincial roads over the weekend

Fifteen people were fatally wounded from three accidents that happened on major roads of the North West province since Friday. According to traffic officials all three fatal accidents were head-on collisions and speed and drunk and driving are said to be the contributing factors that lead to the three incidents.
According to reports, nine people were killed following the head-on collision while traveling in a bakkie and a sedan between Koster and Lichtenburg on Friday evening. Traffic officials report that three of the nine deceased were burned beyond recognition. Only one passenger escaped with serious injuries from the accident that happened about 30 kilometers from Lichtenburg and has since been admitted to hospital. Police are still investigating.
Meanwhile a father and a daughter were fatally wounded in a head on collision between Koster and Rustenburg on the R 52 road. The deceased are said to have sustained serious injuries that lead to their death. According to police the accident happened when another car was overtaking. The driver of another vehicle has since been arrested and was charged for drunken driving. The accident happened around three o’clock in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police further reported another fatal crush on the N12 between Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom. According to reports a sedan crushed into a truck and killed four people instantly. Police are still investigating the cause of the accidents that killed the sedan passengers. Traffic officials also reported that about 8 pedestrians have been killed on the provincial roads.
The visibly disturbed Human Settlements Public Safety and Liaison MEC Nono Maloyi appealed to motorists to be extra careful on the roads, saying those who lost their lives are enough. “Despite our efforts as government to put extra measures on our roads, we are calling on motorist to be responsible and partner with us in reducing road death,” said Maloyi.
Meanwhile MEC Maloyi also instructed traffic officials to double their efforts and show no messy on traffic law offenders.
