Minister Gugile Nkwinti hands-over brick/block-making machine in Nieu-Bethesda

20 Dec 2012

Members of the media are invited to cover the handing-over of a brick/block-making machine ceremony by the Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Mr Gugile Nkwinti to the community of Nieu-Bethesda near Graaff-Reinet on Saturday, 22 December 2012. When in full swing, the brick-making project will contribute in alleviating poverty and curb unemployment in the area.

The brick-making initiative results from an invitation made by Minister Nkwinti to Mayors of Makana, Baviaans and Camdeboo to visit a project (Goedgedacht) in Malmesbury in the Western Cape. The visit to the project was to expose the mayors to the environment of a small town and to look at similarities with their areas. Among others they had to look at how challenges of poverty and unemployment among the farming youth were dealt with and transfer that approach to their own rural farming towns.

Among many of the projects that impressed the mayors in that visit was the brick/block-making. Negotiations between the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform and the mayor of Camdeboo culminated in the purchase of the brick/block-making machine for the community of Nieu-Bethesda at a cost of R340, 00.00.

Later on that day Minister Nkwinti will be the guest of honour in a Christmas Party for the elderly at Nieu-Bethesda.

From the N9 there will be pointers to the venue of the event.

The event will be held as follows:
Date: 22 December 2012
Time: 10h00
